A second engine, reading affect and stance rather than propositional content.
What it is for
Content and stance are different questions
Ackren answers what was said. Serena is concerned with how it was meant: affect, stance, hedging, the difference between a question that wants an answer and a question that wants agreement. These are separable problems and treating them as one has historically produced systems that are confidently wrong about both.
Serena runs on the same footing as Ackren. Deterministic, authored, inspectable, with a derivation record per judgement. If it cannot say why it reached a reading, it does not ship.
Where it stands
Being written, not being announced
The specification is in progress. When it is finished it will be published in full, with its failure accounting, on the same terms as Ackren’s: no form, no gate, limits included.
We are announcing the existence of the work rather than its results, because the work exists and pretending otherwise would be its own kind of dishonesty. There are no benchmark figures on this page because there are none to report.
