Two cookies, both chosen by you
Nothing is set when you arrive. There is no banner because there is nothing to consent to: this site sets no analytics, advertising or tracking cookie of any kind.
The inventory

Both are first party, neither is readable by anyone else, and neither is used to build a profile or shared with a processor. Clearing them returns the site to its defaults: light rendering and English.
Consent
Why there is no banner
Under PECR and the ePrivacy Directive, consent is required for storage that is not strictly necessary. A preference a person has just asked for, remembered so that they do not have to ask again, is the textbook exemption. Both cookies here are of exactly that kind: neither exists until you press something.
A banner in that situation would be theatre. It would ask you to approve storage that has not happened and will not happen unless you choose it, and it would train you to dismiss a dialogue that ought to mean something.
If we ever add anything that genuinely needs consent, the control will be symmetric: reject the same size, weight, colour and position as accept, no pre-ticked boxes, no preferences maze and no cookie wall. That is a commitment, and it is on this page so that it can be held against us.
What we do log
The web server keeps ordinary request logs: address, path, timestamp, user agent. That is not a cookie and it is not optional to serving a page, but it is data about you, so it is named here rather than left out because the page is about cookies.
